Admission to the Program

Participants from every sector of the community are invited to apply. The application can come from their employer or by self nomination. A non-refundable $25 applicaton fee is required.

The application form on this page may be submitted electronically; however, the three items listed in Step Two must be submitted by mail.

Tuition for the LGMC program is $2,000. Assistance is available for eligible participants.

The Screening and Selection Committee will conduct a personal interview with each applicant. Participants will be selected based on their commitment to community and personal leadership aspirations. The selection committee will carefully consider diversity to assure the program and community are fairly represented.

Criteria

Leadership Greater McHenry County seeks individuals:

  • Who represent a cross section of the community including business, education, government, arts, clergy, service and community organizations of various ethnic, age and gender groups.
  • Who have the potential for community leadership and a sincere commitment, motivation and interest in their community and subsequently being an active alumnus.
  • Who have a genuine concern for the future of McHenry County and a strong desire to be personally involved in shaping its direction
  • With potential for advancement to top leadership positions within their own organizations, which may result in significant influence over important issues facing the community.
  • With the availability and commitment of time to complete the Leadership Greater McHenry County program and the full support of the organization he/she represents.
  • With the intention, upon completion of the program, to seek positions on community boards, commissions, key volunteer leadership positions, or public office and to participate in Leadership Greater McHenry County alumni activities and opportunities.

Attendance

The time commitment requires attendance at eight all-day sessions, held once a month on workdays, and participation in an opening two-day overnight retreat, which will occur Friday and Saturday. Only one excused absence will be allowed to graduate. Participants are also required to assist in planning programs. Occasionally, participants will be required to perform pre-class assignments, reading or research prior to program days to enhance the learning experience. Participants who fail to fulfill their attendance obligation will be asked to withdraw from the program.

Tuition

The tuition for the entire program is $2,000.  Full payment is due upon acceptance into the program.  A limited number of partial scholarships are available upon request; please complete the Tuition Assistance section giving all details.
